Text messages to guests

How to turn on texts to guests, which messages they get, and when no text is sent.

Text messages to guests

As well as emails, Norka can send the guest a short text message. It helps most with portal bookings, where the guest often has a phone number but no email.

How to turn it on

Open Settings › SMS and turn on Also text guests. It applies to the whole workspace and is saved straight away. It is off by default.

If the switch says text messages are not set up on this server yet, write to us.

Which messages are sent

With texts on, the main guest with a mobile number gets:

  • Booking confirmation when you set the reservation to confirmed. Sent once per stay.
  • Check-in link when you click Send to guest on the reservation.
  • Feedback request two or three days after they leave, like the email.

Each message carries the link to the stay's page, where the guest finds the details and the online check-in, and is signed on its last line with the Text signature from Settings › SMS, or with your workspace's name when that is empty. It is written in the guest's language (Czech, English, German, French or Polish) and without accents, so it fits one text.

A guest with both an email and a phone gets both. A guest without an email gets only the text, so Send to guest works for a guest who has only a phone.

Every text sent shows in the reservation's history as "Text sent".

When no text is sent

  • The guest has no phone number, or it is not a valid one.
  • The number is a landline.
  • The guest is not the stay's main guest. Only the guest marked as main is texted.
  • The reservation is a date block or your own stay.

A number written without a country code (e.g. 777 123 456) is read as one from the guest's nationality, or as Czech when the nationality is missing. For guests from abroad, write the number with its code, e.g. +49 151 23456789.

The text comes from the SMS gateway's number, not your phone, so a reply to it does not reach you. Put your phone number in the arrival guide for guests.
